If a particular page on a site does not load for some reason or in case a link is not functioning, the site visitor will see an error page with a generic message. The page will have nothing in common with the rest of the Internet site, that can make the visitor leave the website. A possible solution in such a case is a function made available from some web hosting companies - the option to set up your own custom error pages that shall have the exact same style and design as your website and that can contain any text or images that you would like dependent upon the particular error. There are 4 popular errors which may occur and they involve these so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your Internet browser sends a bad request to the web server and it can't be processed; 401, if you're supposed to log in to see a webpage, but you have not done so yet; 403, if you do not have an authorization to see a certain page; and 404, in case a link which you've clicked leads to a file that does not exist. In all of these situations, visitors will be able to see your personalized content as opposed to a generic error page.

Custom Error Pages in Shared Hosting

The custom made error pages function is offered with each shared hosting package we offer and you will be able to substitute all the generic pages with your own with no more than several clicks inside your Hepsia website hosting Control Panel. You'll need to develop the actual files and to upload them to your account, then to set them for a particular domain or subdomain via the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel. You may do this for each website hosted in the account independently, so that every group of customized pages will have the exact same design as the Internet site it's part of. If needed, you could always go back to a default page from our system or to the default Apache server page. An alternate way to set personalized error pages is to create an .htaccess file inside the domain/subdomain root folder and to include a few lines in it. If you have not done this before, you could simply copy the needed program code from our Help article on the subject.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers

All of the Linux semi-dedicated plans that we supply support tailor-made error pages and it shall not take more than several mouse clicks inside your Hepsia hosting Control Panel to use this functionality. The option is available in the Hosted Domains section of your CP where you'll need to enter the links to the custom-made files via basic drop-down menus and an easy to work with interface. Keep in mind, you must upload them inside your account before that. If you do not need to use this function at some point, you can disable it just as quickly and choose an Apache server page or a default page from our system to be shown when your visitors encounter an error. If you'd prefer, you could also use an .htaccess file to enable the custom made error pages. The file has to include a particular line of code plus a link for each error type and you can discover an example of the whole content for all four error types in our Help section.
